Introduction
Since 2010, I have been developing my skills in the line of bicycle fitment under the guidance of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa‘s Dr Jeroen Swart. Together with the system which he himself developed, ErgoFiT, I have performed over 400 fitments and have gained enough experience and understanding through my professional sport to have earned the title of Brand Manager for ErgoFiT nationally.
What is ErgoFiT?
ErgoFiT is a scientifically formulated cycling ergonomic product engineered by Dr Jeroen Swart(as seen on SuperCycling) of Science to Sport. Unlike other bicycle fitment products which use static measurements of body proportions, ErgoFiT incorporates dynamic values such as flexibility and neuromuscular efficiency to accurately predict optimal bike fit.
ErgoFiT has been developed by using advanced regression algorithms to evaluate which factors influence bike fit. Through these techniques, we can predict measurements such as saddle height with extreme accuracy, developing extremely high correlation co-efficients for biological systems. It is therefore possible to calculate set ups relevant to Road racing, Cross Country mountain biking, and Marathon mountain biking and Time Trial with extreme precision.
What does ErgoFiT entail?
ErgoFiT is performed in 3 steps. Firstly, the essential measurements are taken, such as height, individual leg lengths, arms lengths, as well as a flexibility and neuromuscular efficiency test is done. An instant report is then generated online by the Science to Sport server. The bike is then set up according to the parameters of the report. Finally, a 5 point check is performed with the rider on the bike and the fit is then optimised if necessary to ensure the optimal bike fit is achieved. The whole process takes roughly 45- 60 minutes to complete depending on the amount of adjustments needed. ErgoFiT also includes a basic cleat positioning assessment to ensure that the position of the cleat is neutralised under the shoe.
ErgoMAX ,is an additional set of measurements performed during ErgoFiT. These measurements assess foot alignment to determine if any measures are needed to correct any varus’s greater than normal. Leg length discrepancy is also taken into account and corrected by the right means if deemed necessary. All of this can help eliminate any mediolateral deviation in the pedal stroke, reduce risk of injury and improve efficiency on the bike.
Pricing:
ErgoFiT costs R 550. Two bikes costs R 800.
ErgoMAX costs R 750(excludes any wedges which may be needed). Two bikes costs R 950.
Bookings can be made via e-mail at renay@sciencetosport.com. Bike Fitment is performed at 39 Constantia Road, Cape Town (Epic Bike shop).

Testimonials
“Hi renay
No more lower back pains, more power and even easier to generate more rpms. I was a bit sceptic when you start fidling with my handle bars but the ride cumfort increased 10 fold.I even wasted some enegy by taking an allenkey with me for finer saddle adjustments, no need for that either all perfect.
Only problem is I cannot take my mountain bike on the road anymore….running out of gears
Cheers and thanks for the good setup.
Regards,
Theuns “
Thanks again,
Ryan

Hi there,
Please can you let me know if you have a branch in JHB ?? and if the ErgoFit program is available for Road Bikes as well.
Many thanks and Regards
Steve
Hi there. Till what time in the afternoons are you able to do an ErgoFit setup?
Alternatively, can you do it on a Saturday.
Thank you.
Andre.
Hi
Any chance of coming t Durban……..
My ErgoMax experience
Whilst in Cape Town, during 2010, I had a full ErgoMax setup done on both my road and mountain bike. I was very impressed with both; Improved comfort on the road bike, despite the bar height dropping quite a bit, and improved front end grip on the mountain bike. With the change in position of saddle on the rails I could initially feel a difference in pedal stroke muscle recruitment, yet suffered no adaption pain. In fact both bikes became noticeably more comfortable on 3hr plus rides.
Having traveled to the UK in 2011, I’d bought a new bike, and had a ‘professional’ setup carried out by a ‘specialist’ shop. Big mistake – back to the cookie cutter, one size fits nobody, everyones riding position looks the same approach to setup! A bunch of angles applied, with the aid of video footage, yet without any fixed reference points, no flexibility assessement, or so much as measuring of saddle height – which it turned out was now a massive 5cm higher than previously – with the saddle fully forward on the rails! Naturally enough my brand new carbon dream machine felt uncomfortable, bordering on unrideable.
I contacted Renay in the hope that he would still have records of my previous setup, carried out almost a year previous. The reply I received detailing all the measurements previously applied, a guide to how to apply the data to my new bike, advice on how reduced flexibility, which I had mentioned, might effect the riding position, and how I could adjust the setup to counter it’s effects.
I’d been very impressed with ErgoMax, and the way Renay delivered the service, in 2010. The help and guidence given this past week, more than a year after the original setup, is the reason I’m writing here;
ErgoMax has been the best alround experience I’ve had of bike setup, by a very, very long way.
Thanks for everything Renay
Kind regards
